We live in a world torn apart by sin. The attacks in Paris brought this close to home for many, and yet (as I have been aptly reminded) there are sadly countless more instances of pain and suffering all around us.
You may feel overwhelmed, frightened, crushed by these events, convinced that you have no role, no way to pray, no chance to support. I want to encourage you, that as the people of God, we will always be able to offer something – Light in the darkness.
The beautiful words of Saint Francis came to mind today and I hope you will join me in his prayer:
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
it is in dying that we are born again to eternal life.
Grace and peace to you, dear ones.
