To all my Canadian mamas, I hope you’re having a lovely long weekend and getting the chance to have fun family time!
This weekend is particularly special for me because it’s my anniversary weekend! Josiah and I will have been married for 8 years as of tomorrow!
8 beautiful, difficult, loving, stretching, inspiring, crazy years. And I can honestly say that choosing to love someone day in and day out, seeking to submit (in the truly biblical way) and respect that someone when you simultaneously want to scream and run in the other direction, and striving to give of yourself sacrificially and selflessly when your flesh resists this so forcefully…otherwise known as…real marriage… has been the most powerful tool in bringing me to Jesus. And I believe that when you fight for your marriage against a world that wants to tear it apart, then you can look at each other in raw vulnerability and love each other more than the day you said “I do”.
The song we danced to at our wedding was “The other side of me” by Michael W. Smith. Here are some of the lyrics:
If they were to write about
The story of my life
They would have to mention you
With every page they’d write
There’s another side to every story told
If I were the ocean
You would be the shore
And one without the other one
Would be needing something more
We are the shadow and the light
Always love me
(And) never leave me now
(And) now you are the other side of me
Josiah and I are opposites in a lot of ways and through us discovering the strengths and weaknesses in each other over the years, we are learning more about what it means to truly be the “other side” of each other…best friends who complement and support, challenge and encourage. Thank you Siah, for being the other side of me. Thank you for making me a better me. Thank you for pointing me to Jesus.
And my Mama Monday challenge for you today, is to prioritize time with your significant other! One of the best things you can do to relax and be filled up, is to reconnect with your love…have fun, be romantic, spend some time away from the cute little dictators and remember why you fell in love in the first place. It’s so worth it!
