Kid Schedules

I haven’t always been a very scheduled/routine-following person. I like to ‘go with the flow’ and take each day as it comes, generally. But I have recently been converted to the world of structure and order. Or at the very least, somewhat persuaded.

We are coming out of a very long winter and truth be told, I started going a little loopy in the middle of it. Sickness and extreme cold warnings kept us inside a lot. My usual flexible, pretty easy going attitude was pushed over the edge and I wasn’t the mom I really wanted to be. I finally realized that part of our struggle was due to the lack of a plan. What’s the saying… If you fail to plan, you plan to fail? (I’m notoriously bad at sayings/idioms-so hopefully that’s right. Josiah constantly laughs at my “made in the sun”, “jump and roll” blunders). Anyhoo, I jumped on board the scheduling train and it has been a beautiful thing.

Here are some examples of our schedules:

I am clearly the best artist ever, right?  Haha.

I usually let the kids give suggestions and draw some of the pictures too. It has been wonderful! No constant nagging for snacks and screen time, just a simple plan that keeps us focussed. We don’t always stick to things religiously (have to let my spontaneity free sometimes) but it’s been so nice to have the guideline.

What about you? Do you use some sort of schedule?
