2 years ago Tuesday I married my best friend. I know this may sound cliche but boy do I mean those words! I remember waking up extremely early and texting one of my bridesmaids saying “I’m ready my pretty dress is waiting, r u ready? Let’s do this!” pretty sure that was at about 3am .. Lol she said yes and then in all her wisdom convinced me to take my excitement back to my pillow for a few more hours!
There are soo many wonderful memories I have of that day and what it meant to both of us and our families. From having everyone special in our lives in one room at one time, dancing to “I’ve got a feeling” like it was my life’s purpose, feeling like a true princess, having my incredible friends stand beside me, watching my husbands face melt as I walked toward him down the isle..(I’ll NEVER forget it), smiling so hard my cheeks hurt, needing 4 yes I said 4 of my bridesmaids to help me in the bathroom cause my dress was soo puffy. ( insert hysterics here), riding in a limo, having my DEAR friend from Hungary visit for the wedding. All of these things were incredibly special as well as so many other moments but above all the pictures and fancy outfits and pretty hair do’s something much more valuable took place that day!
We committed ourselves to each other before God and many witnesses. We committed to love and honor each other, care for and stand up for each other to encourage and challenge each other to continually grow in our walks with Christ.
18 Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.
25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.[a] 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body. 31 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. 33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
How encouraging is it to know that God knew it wasn’t good for us to be alone, I am so humbled by that thought and reminded that he truly knows our hearts and their desires.
To be honest it’s been a long time since I’ve read these verses. I think they are quickly brought out at weddings and just as quickly forgotten about!
Gods instruction for us in marriage is not to be taken lightly. He wants whats best for us but his direction is not always easy. Life is messy and complicated and we as sinners are also. However what is important is that throughout our marriage, the good, the bad and the ugly parts we strive to live out these verses as best as we can needing Gods help every step of the way!
I can’t believe it has been 2 years already!
